A. The Definition of Narrative Text

Narrative text is a story with complication or problematic events and it tries to find the resolutions to solve the problems. An important part of narrative text is the narrative mode, the set of methods used to communicate the narrative through a process narration.

B. The Purpose of Narrative Text

The purpose of Narrative Text is to amuse or to entertain the reader with a story

C. Generic Structures of Narrative Text

1.) Orientation

Sets the scene: where and when the story happened and introduces the participants of the story: who and what is involved in the story.

2.) Complication

Tells the beginning of the problems which leads to crisis (climax) of the main participants.

3.) Resolution

The problem (the crisis) is resolved, either in a happy ending or in a sad (tragic) ending.

4.) Re-Orientation/Coda

This is a closing remark to the story and it is optional. It consists of a moral lesson, advice or teaching from the writer.

E. Example of Narrative Text

The Ant and the Dove

She could have sunk if a dove up a nearby tree had not seen her. Seeing that the ant was in trouble, the dove quickly put off a leaf from a tree and dropped it immediately into the water near the struggling ant. Then the ant moved towards the leaf and climbed up there. Soon it carried her safely to dry ground.
Not long after at that, there was a hunter nearby who was throwing out his net towards the dove, hoping to trap it in this way.
Guessing what he should do, the ant quickly bit him on the heel. Feeling the pain, the hunter dropped his net and the dove flew away quickly from this net.

One hot day, an ant was seeking for some water. After walking around for a moment, she came to a spring. To reach the spring, she had to climb up a blade of grass. While making her way up, she slipped and fell unintentionally into the water.

The morality: One good turn deserves another.

Snow White

One day, there was a queen sitting near a very beautiful window while tailoring and seeing the snow. Accidentally, her finger was pierced by a sewing needle so that three drops of blood dripped out. The drops of blood fell down on the snow. The red color of the blood which was stuck in the white of the snow looked very pretty. Suddenly the queen thought “If only i had a child whose skin were as white as snow and whose lips were as red as blood”.

As the time went by, finally a queen gave birth of a very pretty princess whose skin was as white as snow and whose lips were as red as blood. The queen grew up as a very pretty and kind-hearted girl. She was called Snow White. However, when Snow White was about teenager, the queen died because of an illness. After the queen’s death, the king married again.  This new queen was wicked and hated Snow white.  The queen gave orders that Snow White was to be treated as a servant.

Everyday the queen stood in front of her magic mirror while asking “Who is the most beautiful woman in the land?” and the mirror always answered, “You are the most beautiful one of all.” The new queen asked the same question everyday and the mirror always answered the same thing. But one day the mirror answered that the queen was so beautiful but Snow White was much more beautiful than the queen. It made the queen so angry that she gave orders to one of her Huntsmen to take Snow White into the woods and kill her.

The Huntsman had such a kind heart that he couldn’t do the deed. He told her to run away.  In her fleeing into the woods, she found a place in which seven dwarfs lived.  Their house was small and strange. Snow White entered the little house and found it very untidy. Then, she started to clean up the entire house. In the upstairs she found seven little beds.  She was so exhausted that she stretched out on one of the beds. Not long after that, she was asleep on the bed.

When the Dwarfs came home they were surprised to find Snow White and after some argument, decided to let her stay.  She promised to cook and look after them. She lived there together happily.

Unfortunately, The Queen discovered the place where Snow White was living and disguising herself as a witch. She then took a poisoned apple and set out for the Dwarfs cottage.  She gave Snow White the poisoned apple to eat and as soon as she bit the apple, she sank into unconsciousness.

Thinking she was dead, the Dwarfs built a glass coffin and put her in it. For days she lay in the forest in her glass coffin.  One day, the Prince was riding through the forest looking for Snow White and found her.  He leaned over and kissed her. She opened her eyes and sat up with a smile. Everyone was happy at that time.  The Prince took Snow White to his palace where they were married and lived happily ever after.

This is a story about a narrative text that I have created, happy reading💗

The Chosen One

Once upon a time,  near London there lived a girl named Asteria Celestial Smith. She is the son of Lucious Smith and Selene Smith. Her father was a wizard who was famous in her area while her mother was an ordinary human. Asteria is born right on the night of a full moon, which is said if someone who is born on a full moon night will be a very strong chosen person (if she is a descendant of a witch). The father who knows about it, he really keeps his daughter very tight and doesn't let her daughter away from his supervision. Because there are many wizard out there who really need this power to strengthen themselves and can even destroy the world and they will definitely kidnap Asteria.

Day by day Asteria grows with a very fast development, she was taught magic by her father. And at that time Asteria was very sophisticated in using magic spells even though she was not even 5 years old. When Asteria was 7 years old, she was entered into a magic school by her father but her mother didn't agree because she was afraid that her daughter would be hurt by other witches. The father advised his mother that he put Asteria into a good magic school and was well protected from wizard evil. Then the father said "Asteria is a brave child, surely she can defend and take care of herself, after all she is the chosen one". Finally the mother agreed.

For years she has attended a magic school, now Asteria is very clever and sophisticated in controlling witchcraft. Asteria grows up to be a beautiful and kind girl. During school holidays, she returned home and met her mother and father. Lucious and Selene were very happy when they found out that their daughter had come home. They saw their daughter grow very fast. After they had spent a lot of time together, it arrived where Lucious tested Asteria's magic power. Lucious started by attacking Asteria first, then responded with a counter attack from Asteria. It seemed Asteria's power was so strong that Lucious was helpless. Knowing this Lucious said to Asteria “Daughter, your strength is so strong that you can even beat me. Asteria, you must protect yourself from other wizard who want to steal your power. Father and Mother will always be by your side, don't be afraid". Asteria also followed her father's words, she was very careful of others.

After school holidays are over, Asteria must leave her parents and have to return to school. Day after day Asteria lived her life as usual, practicing magic, making potions, etc. Where When Asteria was talking with her friends, namely, Alice Chang, Anthony Grindelwald and Margo Luvius, Asteria was called by her school principal, Mr. Paracelsus Purkiss. Asteria is confused about why she was called by Mr. Purkiss, even though she never made a single mistake. When she arrived in Mr. Purkiss' room, Asteria was asked to sit down and Mr. Purkiss said something to Asteria "Ms. Asteria, I called you not because you did anything wrong or anything, I know you are a very kind and brave child. I know your father, he is the strongest wizard. Maybe you have been told by your father that you are a chosen one, I am only telling you something if you use your strength during the full moon, you will be much stronger than your current strength. I will help you if one day you are attacked by another wizard. And in this school help will always be there if you ask for it ”. Asteria smiled and thanked Mr. Purkiss.

Until one day, Asteria was not allowed to leave her magic school, her father and mother also came to the magic school to make sure their daughter was safe and that nothing happened. Asteria is very confused about why everyone seems to protect her. She asked her friends, it turned out that they were like that because an evil witch would kidnap her. After Asteria found out, she was very proud and very grateful to everyone who protected her.

Right on Asteria's 18th birthday, which is exactly when the full moon arrives. The magic school is protected by guards and protective spells. The vice principal of the magic school, Mrs. Aurora Rosmerta tells all the students to stand guard and prepare themselves for war. Asteria who knows this, she questions who will fight with all the residents in this school. Anthony Grindelwald, one of her friends said that there will be a massive war in our school and the one who will be her opponent is the evil witch, Pixie Andromeda.

On that day Pixie arrived with her dreadful input. The residents of the comb school were already prepared to receive attacks from them. Arrives where Pixie gives orders to attack and kidnap Asteria. The war began in very chaotic conditions, there were several teachers and students who died. Asteria can only wait for the time to come, which is when the full moon has appeared. She can only hide in her room and see all the events from the window.

As Pixie and Asteria looked up at the sky, they realized that the full moon had arrived. Pixie is frightened and immediately looks for Asteria's whereabouts alone to carry and she doesn't have long time it's just that until the full moon shines brightly when the full moon is covered in clouds Pixie can't take Asteria's power, pixie doesn't know that Astheria's power will become strong if it's hit by the full moon light . On the other hand, Asteria prepared herself to attack all of Pixie's troops and she walked out of her room quickly. Asteria saw that many had become victims of this war. When Asteria leaves school, she is immediately in the forefront beyond Mr. Purkiss and Mrs. Rosmerta.

The light of the full moon shone on Asteria's tiny body, immediately all attention was focused on Asteria. When the full moon no longer shines on Asteria, she has fully acquired the power, and she is very excited and immediately attacks back the pixie and the insert. Pixie who knows this can only be silent and frozen, but the Pixie does not give up. Almost all of Pixie's army was helpless because of Asteria's power. With her enthusiasm, Asteria immediately searched for Pixie's whereabouts and she also didn't want to add more victims. After that, she had eyes on Pixie and didn't want to wait to long. Asteria immediately attacked Pixie until Pixie was helpless and even she died and turned into flying dust.

After years of that incident, Asteria and the others are leading normal lives as usual without any evil wizard who will seize power again. Asteria also protects many people around her, her friends, teachers and her families.
